Abstract

Background

Medication errors are a serious patient safety issue due to increasing rate of morbidity and mortality associated with it. Thus, this study was carried out with a purpose of finding out knowledge of health workers towards medication error reporting.

Method

A descriptive cross- sectional research design was employed and 30 (thirty) respondents were selected using convenient sampling method. Data was collected using questionnaires then analyzed and presented.

Results

The majority of respondents 22 (73%) were not aware of national medication error reporting system while the least 8 (27%) were aware.

Conclusion

In Conclusion, the researcher noted that the respondents were knowledgeable about medication error reporting.

Recommendation

The study, thus, recommends that there is a need to introduce national medication error reporting system in health care practice and training. This would improve on the patient(s) safety.
